STUFFED at FRIEDAcommunity

This fall, Arts Integration Studio collaborated with Thomas Steinborn of the FRIEDAcommunity in Philadelphia and P.W. Prichett, a fabric artist based in New York City, on an interactive art installation and community writing project titled STUFFED.

STUFFED is a community art project
focused on the complex and profound connection
humans have to food.

The project began as a visual conversation between Thomas and P.W., who co-created images of characters that P.W. then brought to life as 9 large fabric sculptures. Priscilla and Steve at Arts Integration Studio joined the project and developed unique life narratives for each character. Then Priscilla provided a training workshop in Philadelphia for facilitators brought together by the FRIEDAcommunity to lead crowdsourcing writing workshops for participants of all ages to create unique narratives for the characters of their choice.

The exhibition opened on October 4th and will be on display at FRIEDA through December 2024. Visitors are invited to offer their own voices in responding to, and connecting around their food experiences – from food insecurity to food pains, pleasures, and passions.

Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation 2024

On June 12th, Priscilla was the keynote speaker and moderated a panel discussion for the Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation’s event, Harnessing the Cultural Resources of the Berkshires to Improve Educational Outcomes for Our Students. Priscilla spoke about a notion she has been dancing with for years: How do you help students learn to care about school, about learning, about the quality of the work they hand in? Her reply? Give them the opportunity to create! Priscilla’s talk, Creativity as the Antidote to Apathy, illuminated the magical braid of Arts Integration – the weaving together of academic learning, social emotional learning, and creative expression, that inspires students to strive for excellence in everything they do.
